The outstanding Chinese-American artists, Lawrence Liu's "Pick Up the Dream" plain color series of works are the result of hard works of the years. This group of art pieces is the art precipitation and crystallization of Mr. Liu's past intercourse between New York, USA and Shanghai, China over more than ten years. They show the style of plain color, simplicity, and realism, and recorded every scene he saw after he left his hometown. When facing the same old town and water town back in the home, the feeling of "the same object but a different person" inevitably dragged us into the middle of reality and imaginary...

刘先生用其独特的构思和形式，抛弃五彩颜色，跨界独创的简笔大写意表现手法，找寻了中、西绘画艺术语言的融汇之点，每幅作品体现和贴切打动了我们这些常年介于东西方世界的海外华人的共同体验与心声，无论是“功成名就”还是“子孙满堂”，海外华人心中挥之不去的莫过于是“乡愁”和儿时曾经生活过的景象……

Mr. Liu uses his unique ideas and forms, giving up colorful paints, and created his personal freehand brushwork, which he finds the converging point of the painting art languages of China and the west. 刘先生的这组《家山拾梦》素色油画系列作品仿佛让人们走进了既陌生又熟悉的岁月境地。他的百余幅故乡情结的作品，尤其是写意朱家角画作，别开生面，独具一格，致力于中国油画语言的写意、含蓄、抽象和诗意，正是现当代油画作品重要突破的中国油画民族化探索的思考和例证。它们既具备了中国水墨画的素色基调，更不乏西方印象主义和现实主义丰富多变呈现的表现。

This group of "Pick Up the Dream" plain color oil painting series of works by Mr. Liu seems to walk people into the strange but familiar ages. The dozens of his nostalgic works, especially the freehands of Zhujiajiao are distinctive and unique. They are committed to Chinese oil painting language's vivid expression, connotation, abstraction, and poetic quality, which are the evidence of the important breakthrough of nationalizing Chinese oil painting's exploration and consideration. They obtain the plain color base of Chinese ink painting while also show western impressionism and realism.

刘树春素色油画作品具有鲜明的民族特色，“素色”其象征着鲜明的美学趋向，“素色”也可谓“墨色”，“墨色”的内涵是中国文人历来认知世界和表现世界的基本方式，是经千年的演变和积累形成的最具代表中国民族特质的绘画语言体系，其审美趋向以及审美特点体现着民族的审美价值观。

Lawrence Liu's plain color oil paintings obtain clear national characteristics. "Plain color," which represents the trend of aesthetic, can also be "ink color." The connotation of "ink color" is the basic way for Chinese literati to perceive and express the world. It is the most representative Chinese national painting language system formed after thousands of years of evolution and accumulation. There are essential differences between the creative concepts of Chinese and western paintings. In the west, people tend to view the objective world as a subject and object relationship, which they are separated; in China, people and nature blend into one, where people are part of nature, and contains a philosophical and spiritual highness.
