陈向东旅居纽约，不仅创作水墨，还创作陶瓷作品，其形制、绘制、烧制都别有个性，很受北美人士喜爱；而其绘制的水墨作品，多了对事物、器物的质感观察，手下落笔不求皴法章节，而是笔线描绘，清淡点染，不事雕琢，本展之荷花作品为传统题材，但非墨荷之荷，极尽墨之飞扬韵致，而是以严谨之笔传写物态，以对称之形表达物之有序。

Chen Xiangdong lives in New York, he not only create with water and ink, but also makes porcelain works. His shaping, painting, and heating of the porcelain all contain his own identity, which is loved by North Americans. Ink painting drawn by him have more observations on the texture of objects and tools, the strokes are not complex but are traced by pen lines clearly, colored lightly, and without extra decorations. This exhibition took lotus works as a traditional theme, but unlike the free charm of ink lotus, the lotus by Chen meant to convey the solemn physical state of an object and to express the orderliness via proportion.
